Set Up Cost Alerts

Last updated: 2026-10-28

Cost alerts are a feature that sends an email notification when usage-based additional charges (after free tier discounts) exceed a threshold you set.

Each plan comes with a default threshold pre-configured. Members with the organization’s Owner or Billing role can change it to a custom amount (in JPY, excluding tax, an integer from 1 to 100,000,000), and can also reset it back to the default afterward.

Evaluation for the email notification is not real-time; it runs once a day via a batch process (the on-screen warning banner is separate and is reflected as soon as the overage is detected — see the table below). If the threshold is exceeded, an email notification is sent to every member with the organization’s Owner or Billing role. Normally this is sent at most once per calendar month, but changing the threshold partway through the month is an exception to that — see the note below.

The on-screen notice and the email notification differ in timing.

Warning bannerReflected on screen immediately once the threshold is exceeded.
Email notificationTakes effect from the first daily re-evaluation on or after the day following the threshold change or overage detection.

*Changing the threshold partway through the month resets the “already notified” state, so you may receive another notification within the same month once the condition is met again.

Limitations

  • Cost alert email notifications are not evaluated in real time; they are evaluated via a once-daily batch process (taking effect the following day or later).
  • Cost alerts are not available at all for organizations billed through AWS Marketplace (the threshold and overage amount cannot be computed in JPY for this channel). Instead, you can set up AWS budget alerts in the AWS Billing console. For details, see Subscribing Through AWS Marketplace.
