Initial Setup

Last updated: 2026-10-28

This page walks you through the initial setup that you complete first when you start using Lorel.ai, beginning with creating a user account.

If you subscribe through AWS Marketplace

If you subscribe through AWS Marketplace, you go from AWS Marketplace to a Lorel.ai screen after you subscribe and register your organization there. You do not perform “2. Create an organization” and “3. Start a contract” on this page. If you do not have a Lorel.ai user account, sign up from that screen. The steps from “4. Create your first project” onward are the same as on this page. For details, see Subscribing Through AWS Marketplace.

Overview

In Lorel.ai, the unit that manages contracts and members is an “organization,” and the unit that manages what you operate and how it is configured is a “project.” You first create an organization, and then create a project in it for each system you operate. For details, see Organizations and Projects Overview.

The initial setup flow

Complete the initial setup in the following order.

  1. Create a user account
  2. Create an organization
  3. Start a contract
  4. Create your first project
  5. Invite members to the organization
  6. Add members to the project

1. Create a user account

Create the user account that you use to log in to Lorel.ai.

  1. Open https://lorel.ai/login in your browser.
  2. Below the form on the login screen, select “Don’t have an account?” to go to the sign-up screen.
  3. Enter the email address you want to register and a password of at least 15 characters.
  4. Select “Create account.”
  5. In the “Confirmation code” field, enter the 6-digit code that you received from noreply@lorel.ai at that email address.
    • The confirmation code is valid for 30 minutes.
    • If the code doesn’t arrive, select “Resend code.”
  6. Select “Verify.”

After verification, you are logged in automatically and the initial setup screen (the one with the “Create organization” button) appears. From here on, this page calls this screen the “initial setup screen.” Continue to step 2.

For password requirements, two-factor authentication, and other details, see User Authentication. If the confirmation email doesn’t arrive, see I’m not receiving emails from Lorel.ai.

2. Create an organization

If you subscribe through AWS Marketplace

If you subscribe through AWS Marketplace, do not select “Create organization” here. You register your organization by returning through AWS Marketplace. Sign in to AWS Marketplace with the subscription AWS account (the AWS account you used to subscribe), and select “Set up your account” on the Lorel.ai product page to open the screen for registering your organization. For details, see “If registration does not go through” in Subscribing Through AWS Marketplace.

Create the organization that manages your members and projects.

  1. On the initial setup screen, select “Create organization.”
  2. Select “As a business.”
    • If you want to use Lorel.ai as an individual, select “On my own,” and then select “Contact our sales team.”
  3. Enter the “Company name” (the official registered name) and the “Company website” (a URL that starts with http:// or https://), and then select “Next.”
  4. On the “Before you begin” screen, follow these steps:
    1. Scroll to the end of the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy to read each one. When you reach the end, you can select its checkbox.
    2. Select the checkbox for each document.
    3. Select “Agree.”
  5. On the “Name your organization” screen, enter the organization name that appears in Lorel.ai, and then select “Next.” Your company name is filled in as the initial value.
    • You can change the organization name later.

After you enter the organization information, the contract screen appears.

Your organization is created in step 3, “Start a contract.” If you pay by credit card, it is created when you select “Subscribe with card.” If you pay by bank transfer, it is created when you select “Submit application.” If you close the screen before that, no organization is created. Even after it is created, you can’t use the organization until you start the contract.

3. Start a contract

Choose the contract type, plan, and payment method, review the details, and start the contract. An organization Owner or a user with the Billing role starts the contract.

Choose your contract

On the contract screen, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the contract type (Monthly or Annual). The annual contract is available only with the Standard plan.
  2. Choose the plan (Starter or Standard). The Enterprise plan isn’t shown on this screen. For a custom contract, see How do I contact support?.
  3. Choose the payment method (Credit card or Bank transfer). Bank transfer requires a review.
  4. Select the “I have reviewed the plan and payment details” checkbox that appears after you choose a payment method. You can’t select the next button until you select the checkbox.
  5. If you pay by credit card, select “Subscribe with card.” If you pay by bank transfer, select “Apply with bank transfer.”

For details about plans and pricing, see Plans and Pricing.

Start a contract with a credit card

If you choose a credit card, there is no review, and you can start using Lorel.ai right away.

  1. In the card fields that appear, enter the card number, the expiration date (month/year), the security code, and any other requested details.
  2. Select “Save card and continue.”
  3. On the contract confirmation screen, review the organization name, plan, contract period, next renewal date, and other details.
  4. Select “Start contract.”

When you select “Start contract,” billing begins from that point. For a monthly contract, the monthly base fee is not prorated. Even if you start in the middle of a month, you pay the full month’s fee for the starting month. Annual contracts are also billed monthly.

Start a contract with a bank transfer

Bank transfer (invoice payment) requires a review. Currently, it is available to corporations in Japan.

  1. Enter the following information:
    • Invoice recipient (company name)
    • Invoice & billing-related email (your login email address is filled in as the initial value)
    • Postal code, prefecture, city / ward, street address, and building / room (building / room is optional)
  2. If you changed the invoice email address to one that differs from your login email address, complete the following. You can’t select “Review your details” until the verification is complete.
    1. Below the field, select “Send verification code.”
    2. Enter the 6-digit code sent to that address.
    3. Select “Verify code.”
  3. Select “Review your details.”
  4. On the “Review your details” screen, check the information, and then select “Submit application.”
  5. When the “Thank you for your application” screen appears, wait for the review result. The review usually takes about 2 business days. The result is sent to the organization Owner, the members with the Billing role, and the invoice email address.
  6. After the application is approved, log in. If you are already logged in, you don’t need to log in again.
  7. On the initial setup screen, select your organization under “Organizations awaiting start” (marked “Ready to start”).
  8. Review the contract details.
  9. Select “Start contract.”

Keep the following in mind during the review:

  • While your application is pending review, you can’t start a contract by credit card. To pay by card instead, select “Cancel application,” and then select “Cancel application” again on the confirmation screen. Canceling also deletes the organization that was created and clears what you entered, so you start again from the first screen, “Tell us about your company.”
  • If your application isn’t accepted, select “Start a new application” on the “We could not accept your application” screen to choose your payment method again.
  • The contract starts when you select “Start contract.” You aren’t charged during the review period.

If the terms agreement screen appears when you start the contract

Whether you pay by credit card or by bank transfer, Lorel.ai checks whether you have agreed to the latest Terms of Service and Privacy Policy when you select “Start contract.” If your agreement isn’t on record, or the terms have been updated, an agreement screen appears. Review the terms, select “Agree,” and then select “Start contract” again.

Only an organization Owner can record the agreement. When one Owner agrees, the agreement applies to the whole organization. If you start the contract with the Billing role, ask an Owner to record the agreement.

For managing billing and payment methods after the contract starts, see Contract Status, Billing Information, and Payment Method Management.

4. Create your first project

After the contract starts, create the first project where you do your actual operations.

  1. On the “Create your first project” screen, enter a name in the “Project name” field that identifies the system or environment you manage.
  2. Choose the “Membership” setting.
    • “Invite only” (the default) means that only members invited by an administrator can join.
    • “Request to join” means that members of the organization can request to join, and an administrator approves the request. On screens after creation, such as the organization settings, it appears as “Requestable.”
  3. Select “Create project.”
  4. On the “Complete your setup” screen, check what to set up next. The screen shows “Data Sources,” “Detection rules,” “Compound rules” (optional), and “Incident policies,” in that order. “Data Sources” corresponds to Sources under Integration in the “Next steps” section.
  5. Select “Get started.” The project you created opens.

Add a project from organization settings (second and later projects)

To add a project after the initial setup, create it from the organization settings. “Settings” appears in the lower part of the sidebar only while a project is open. Only an organization Owner or Manager can create projects. The Starter plan allows only one project. The Standard and Enterprise plans have no limit.

  1. In the lower part of the sidebar, select “Settings,” and then select “Organization Settings.”
  2. In the sidebar, select “Projects” (the tab on the screen is also “Projects”), and then select “Add Project” in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter the project name, choose the “Type” (“Invite Only” or “Requestable”), and then select “Create.” The project you created is added to the project list.

5. Invite members to the organization

After you create the organization, invite the team members who work with you on operations. Only an organization Owner or Manager can send invitations. A Manager can grant only the Manager, Member, and Guest roles.

To add a user to a project, that user must already be a member of the organization. The Starter plan allows up to three users, and users with pending invitations count toward the limit. The Standard and Enterprise plans have no limit.

  1. In the lower part of the sidebar, select “Settings,” and then select “Organization Settings.”
  2. In the sidebar, select “Members” (the tab on the screen is also “Members”).
  3. Select “Invite Members” in the upper-right corner.
  4. Enter the email address of the user you want to invite.
  5. Choose the user’s role in the organization. For the permissions of each role, see “Organization roles and the permission model” in Roles and Permissions.
  6. Select “Send Invitation.” Lorel.ai sends an invitation email.

The invited user joins the organization as follows:

  1. Open the link in the invitation email from noreply@lorel.ai (valid for 7 days).
  2. If the user isn’t logged in, “Log in to join” appears when the invited email address is already registered, and “Sign up to join” appears when it isn’t. If the user signs up, they must also enter a confirmation code.
  3. After logging in, select “Join” on the invitation screen.

If the user is logged in with a different email address, they must select “Log out and log in,” and then log in with the account that uses the invited email address. Even if an invited user already has a user account, or already belongs to another organization, the user must join the invited organization from the link in the invitation email. Logging in to Lorel.ai doesn’t add the user automatically.

6. Add members to the project

Add users who belong to the organization to the project, and set their roles in the project. Only a project Administrator can add members.

  1. In the lower part of the sidebar, select “Settings,” and then select “Project Settings.”
  2. Select “Add Member” in the upper-right corner of the project settings screen. A form titled “Invite Members” appears.
  3. In “Add member,” choose a user who belongs to the organization.
  4. Choose the user’s role in the project.
  5. Select “Add.” The user you selected is added to the project’s member list.

Unlike an organization invitation, there is no invitation email and no step for the user to accept. The members you add join the project right away.

Project roles

The project roles and their main permissions are as follows. A higher role can do everything that the lower roles can do.

RoleMain permissions
AdministratorAdd, remove, and change the roles of members; approve join requests; manually approve Access
EditorCreate, edit, and delete Integration, Rules, Incident Policies, Runbooks, and AI Agents; edit and delete Incidents; create, edit, and delete Tasks
WorkerRespond to Incidents and Tasks (change the status and comment); run Runbooks manually (Runbooks that include cloud actions can be run only when “Allow execution by WORKER” is turned on for that Runbook)
ViewerView Incidents, Tasks, Observability, and settings

For the detailed permissions of each role, see “Project roles and the permission model” in Roles and Permissions.

Next steps

The initial setup is complete. Next, connect your monitoring tools and cloud environment, and set up automation.

  1. Set up Integration
    • Set up connections to your monitoring tools and cloud services. Configure Sources to bring in events and metrics from tools such as Datadog and Amazon CloudWatch, and Access to connect to your cloud environment.
  2. Check the incoming data in Observability
    • In Metrics under Observability, check the status and trends of the metrics that are collected.
  3. Set up Rules and Incident Policies
    • Set the conditions that create incidents automatically from the events you bring in, and the AI agent or Runbook that runs as the first response. For details, see Rules Overview.
  4. Create Runbooks
    • Define the operating procedures that automate failure recovery and routine operations. You can combine them with AI agents and Access to extend your automation. For details about AI agents, see AI Agents Overview.
